“No Way Home/Life Without Parole”
A film screening and panel discussion addressing Pennsylvania’s continued use of Life Without the possibility of Parole sentences.
“No Way Home/ Life without Parole” is a documentary created by Amistad Law Center* featuring the story of Lorraine Haw, “Ms. Dee Dee”, a mother fighting to free her son from a Life without Parole sentence, also known as Death by Incarceration (DBI).
The screening will gather families from Pittsburgh and across the state impacted by DBI sentences to discuss the repercussions of Pennsylvania being one of only six states still using DBI sentences and allowing no opportunity for a second chance and a way home.
A panel discussion moderated by One Hood Media’s Miracle Jones will follow the documentary and will include the voices of “dual victims”, impacted by both violent crime and Pennsylvania’s extreme sentencing laws.
Featured panelists:
- Ms. Dee Dee Haw- the documentary subject
- Amy Sortino- CADBI West lead organizer who once faced a DBI sentence herself.
- Pam Crocker & Diesel the Freedom Dog- Mother of a son serving DBI and her service dog. Together they advocate for legislative change in PA to provide second chances to deserving Lifers and long termers.
